Like You Mean Business" has appeared nationally in Vogue, Elle, and Harpers Bazaar as well as outdoors on bus shelters and phone kiosks in Manhattan and Los Angeles. Chico's
![]() Account Profile: Chico's (NYSE: CHCS) is a large retailer of medium priced casual wear targeting the affluent Women 25-54 demographic. Through its network of 215 stores in 35 states, Chicos reaches 80 percent of the US. population through its marketing efforts. KD&E handles Chico's media planning and buying as well as regional and national public relations initiatives targeting consumer groups. Challenge: In the competitive retail environment, Chico's faced challenges the challenge of expanding to expand their direct mail efforts, the mainstay of their marketing program. Solution: KD&E found innovative ways to support their catalog distribution and subsequent sales through the implementation of a national magazine campaign purchased far below normal ratecard rates. A secondary benefit was the branding of the stores achieved through the media. This brand awareness drove sales beyond traditional retail periods when advertising was on hiatus. Result: Despite the declining economy over this period, sales skyrocketed, the most recent quarter reporting over more than 70% over last year, 34% same store increases. The stock has also soared due to market anticipation of continued sales expansion. Sales increases were achieved without discounting merchandise in sales events typical to the retail fashion industry. Dress Barn Account Profile: Dress Barn has come a long way since opening in 1962. Now, with over 700 locations nationwide, Dress Barn is one of America's premier retailers of women's career and casual fashions. Challenge: Dress Barn sought a way to decrease the expense and increase the efficiency of their newspaper advertising. They were already obtaining a low, retail (net) rate that made it difficult to incentivise an agency to get involved. Solution: KD&E found new loopholes within the newpapers' pricing structures and developed a proprietary computer-integrated insertion system, AIS (Automated Insertion System) as Dress Barn runs in several hundred different newspapers each week, each with a different ad. AIS allows us to put together a buy consisting of hundreds of newspapers nationwide in minutes and get confirmed insertion orders in a matter of hours, each clearly stating all pertinent information on each ad. Result: We have a enjoyed a decade long relationship with Dress Barn and continually seek new opportunities to add value to their advertising program. We now also handle creative and advertising in other media. Stern's ![]() Account Profile: A division of Federated Department Stores, Stern's services the New York Metropolitan area and the northeast corridor with 75 locations. Challenge: KD&E was asked to assist an inhouse team in transition. Our job was to pick up the reins (and a few CD chromes with the more recent product shots) and implement an outdoor program in time for the holidays. Solution: Within 48 hours, KD&E had a complete creative and media proposal on the desk of Stern's Marketing Director. Result: Sterns has an effective outdoor campaign, locations obtained at sufficiently less than market rate and materials posted without incurring rush charges. Take Two Interactive Account Profile: Take Two (NASD: TTWO) is a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ (TTWO). Headquartered in New York City, Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. is an integrated global developer, marketer, distributor, and publisher of interactive entertainment software games and accessories for the PC, PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Nintendo Game Boy Color, Sega Dreamcast and the PlayStation 2. The Company company publishes and develops products through various wholly owned subsidiaries including: Rockstar Games, Gathering of Developers, TalonSoft, Joytech, DMA Design, PopTop and under the Take-Two brand name. The Company's Jack of All Games value value-added distribution arm maintains sales and marketing offices in Cincinnati, New York, Toronto, London, Paris, Munich, Oslo, Vienna, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Milan and Sydney. Challenge: Each division of the company is allowed to operate as an independent entity in fulfilling its marketing objectives. They couldn't take advantage of the economies of scale and prevented the creation of a scalable marketing strategy. Solution: The corporation requested that KD&E leverage the collective spending across all divisions to obtain the best pricing and centralizing centralize the billing, assist in developing advanced planning and forecasting, streamline trafficking of materials to the media, and remain vigilant in the pursuit of new opportunities and strategic alliances. Result: KD&E essentially restructured Take Two's relationship with their industry and the advertising community. Through continual dialogue and positive information flow, the company now gets the best pricing in the industry, the best positioning, and is forging ahead to create unprecedented alliance with other youth marketers such as Coca Cola and Def Jam Records.
