Omega Watches SWATCH - Time For Goodwill Swatch, the number 1 brand for high-tech, colorful, innovative timepieces, signed on as the Official Timekeeper and Results Provider for the 1998 Goodwill Games, which commenced in New York City on July 18th. As Official Timekeeper and Results Provider of the 1998 Goodwill Games, Swatch designed a unique watch exclusively for the summer's Games - Time for Goodwill Swatch Access watch.
KD&E was brought in as specialty event
project managers to oversee two Goodwill Games related Swatch launch events.
In addition to coordinating and managing both events, KD&E was responsible
for writing all press releases, designing the press kit folder and invitations,
and pitching both national and local media. The first event was a press
conference held at New York's Official All Star Cafe featuring Olympic Gold
Medalist and Goodwill Games athlete Michael Johnson. Joining the press conference,
live via satellite from Switzerland, was Nicolas G. Hayek, Chairman and
CEO of Swatch/SMH. Also participating, live via satellite from Atlanta,
was Ted Turner, Vice Chairman of Time Warner, Inc. Michael Johnson closed
the press conference by activating a giant, outdoor Swatch Countdown Clock
high above Times Square on the facade of the Marriott Marquis. To ensure
that Mr. Johnson did not "miss a beat," he received a 10 count, tapped countdown
from the talented, Tony award winning cast of Bring in 'da Noise, Bring
in 'da Funk who shared the corner with him.
That same evening KD&E organized a 600
guest Swatch Countdown Party at New York City's legendary Studio 54. In
light of the theme of the day, Studio 54 was transformed into an urban,
interactive sports playground filled with virtual reality games, Access
booths, and a full-on basketball court. Rap music pioneers, the SugarHill
Gang, performed and football great, Boomer Esiason, was the evening's emcee.
To add to the excitement, everyone's favorite "wascally wabbit," Bugs Bunny,
teamed up with sports stars, Michael Johnson, Boomer Esiason, and Karch
Kiraly, to participate in a celebrity hoop shoot contest that earned a $10,000
Swatch donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
